This painting depicts the faded glory of a sign actually still in use for small apartments in Central Florida. I loved the way you could see multiple layers of repainted lettering. It was probably originally lighted with neon since you can see some holes covered by metal discs. The shape appears as if it were the shape of a pineapple. I decided to add more color to the painting and loosening up by drawing into it and adding some opaque paint over parts of it. The original can be float matted since the edges are the deckle edges all the way around. Enjoy the colorful look to this vintage piece on apparel, as wall decor, and other fun merchandise.
I love creating urban landscapes with mid-century signage, cityscapes, botanical subjects, landscapes, figuratives and occasionally abstract work. Mediums include drawing media charcoal, pencil, and conte, traditional transparent watercolor on paper, acrylic on canvas, and mixed media & paper collage. I received my MFA in watercolor painting from Eastern Michigan University.
