This is an ant's eye view through the marquis sign of an old closed theater in downtown Detroit. Beautiful tile and marble work dress the outside of the building. Detroit is full of these goodies. The work is painted in traditional transparent watercolor on handmade paper called Indian Village in which the surface has a very rough random texture. The original has a deckle edge and best framed by floating on a matte with the glazing set apart from the piece in shadow-box style.
I love creating urban landscapes with mid-century signage, cityscapes, botanical subjects, landscapes, figuratives and occasionally abstract work. Mediums include drawing media charcoal, pencil, and conte, traditional transparent watercolor on paper, acrylic on canvas, and mixed media & paper collage. I received my MFA in watercolor painting from Eastern Michigan University. I have a number of awards for my paintings, most recently, the 76th Michigan Water Color Society Exhibition MWCS Members Award, and also am selected as a Finalist to published in Artist Magazine's September special issue "AcrylicWorks 10: The Best of Acrylic" art competition.
